Certified CMMC Assessor — an individual credentialed by the Cyber AB to conduct CMMC Level 2 certification assessments as part of a C3PAO team.
A Certified CMMC Assessor (CCA) is an individual who has met the Cyber AB's training, examination, and experience requirements to conduct CMMC Level 2 certification assessments. CCAs are employed by C3PAOs and are the people who actually execute the assessment process at a contractor's site.
During an assessment, a CCA-led team interviews control owners, examines artifacts and evidence, observes processes, and renders met / not met / not applicable verdicts on each of the assessment objectives in NIST SP 800-171A. The team lead writes the assessment report that the C3PAO submits to the Cyber AB and SPRS.
CCAs are independent professionals who take their credibility seriously. They will notice when an SSP is boilerplate, when evidence is fabricated, or when a contractor's practices do not match what the documentation claims.
