OSC
Also known as: Organization Seeking Certification
Organization Seeking Certification — the formal CMMC term for a defense contractor going through the certification process.
Organization Seeking Certification (OSC) is the formal term used in the CMMC program to refer to a defense contractor or subcontractor that is preparing for or undergoing a CMMC certification assessment. The term appears throughout the official CMMC Assessment Process documentation and the C3PAO Code of Professional Conduct.
When an OSC engages a C3PAO, the contractual relationship is between the OSC and the C3PAO. The OSC delivers the pre-assessment package (SSP, network diagrams, evidence index, asset inventory, etc.), the C3PAO conducts the assessment, and the OSC receives the certification (or fails to receive it) based on the results.
In marketing copy and casual conversation, 'OSC' is interchangeable with 'defense contractor going through CMMC.'
