Final Certification
Also known as: Final Level 2 · Full CMMC certification
The full, non-conditional CMMC Level 2 status. Issued when all 110 NIST SP 800-171 requirements are met or when all POA&M items have been closed within 180 days.
Final certification is the full, non-conditional CMMC Level 2 status. It is issued when a C3PAO assessment confirms that all 110 NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 security requirements are met — either at the time of the initial assessment, or after all POA&M items from a conditional certification have been closed and validated within the 180-day window.
Final certification is valid for three years, after which the contractor must undergo recertification. During the three-year period, the contractor must submit annual senior official affirmations in SPRS attesting that the certification remains accurate.
Final certification is what most contracts require for award. Conditional certification may be acceptable for some contract clauses but is increasingly being treated as an interim state that contractors should clear quickly.
