Controlled Technical Information

Also known as: CTI

A specific subcategory of CUI for technical data with military or space application. The most common CUI subcategory for defense contractors.

Controlled Technical Information (CTI) is a specific subcategory of Controlled Unclassified Information defined in DFARS 252.204-7012 as 'technical information with military or space application that is subject to controls on the access, use, reproduction, modification, performance, display, release, disclosure, or dissemination.'

For most defense contractors, CTI is the most common type of CUI they handle. It includes technical drawings, specifications, manufacturing processes, test results, software source code, and similar engineering and operational information related to defense items.
